Uche Nnaji muses on the discord in the fashion industry making a case with the recently held Lagos Leather Fair & AFWN 2017.
The founder/creative director of fashion brand OUCH who was on a masterclass panel at the recently held Lagos Leather Fair 2017 speaks out about the event and the Africa Fashion Week Nigeria 2017 held over the weekend 3-4th June that didn't get as much buzz as they both should after settling for same day shows.
Stating the discord as a result of absence of a governing body, he went on a rant on Instagram; "Dilemma of a NIGERIAN FASHION Industry withOUT a FASHION COUNCIL : -------------------------------------
Organizer's OBJECTIVE : very Laudable
RESULT : Maybe not fully achieved.
WHY?: No GOVERNING Body / Council.
For an industry that makes more progress in the Media than BANKability, the last thing that should be happening right now at this teething stage is allowing such DIVISION. Because I don't understand why share the THIN crowd when like other REGULATED and SERIOUS-MINDED global fashion Industries ,we could just CREATE and RESPECT a Calendar. Imagine the impact both Events/Shows would have had if both didn't hold same 3rd/4th of June .
To worsen the matter, one was in VI(Where I spoke at ) ,the other the Mainland, which even makes it more difficult for most fashion aficionados to attend BOTH. Anyway what do I know sef, let me comma be going b4 someone reminds me that OUCH hasn't staged any fashion show in recent times. #styledoctor #ouchaholics #NigerianFashion #fashionindustry #FashionElite".
