Four Rising Designers To Watch At NSFDW Season 2

Over 48 student/aspiring designers and 30 exhibitors from across Nigeria expected at the event, fashion enthusiasts wait to be treated to a glimpse of the future of Nigerian fashion at the Season 2 of the Nigerian Student Fashion and Design Week (NSFDW)

Pulse brings you one of the fast rising designers who will present their works to the world at the even .

1. Name: Stephanie Oduenyi Brand Name: Makani Couture

Stephanie is a graduate of Madonna and the CEO of Makani Couture. She has been in the fashion industry for two-and-a half years.

“Fashion has always been something I wanted to do way back from high school.  I thought to myself why have a boutique full of peoples designs when I can design my collections and stock, this urge gave birth to Makani couture,” she told Student Pulse.

2. Name: Utejiro Gregory Ogbo Brand Name: Couture Royale

Utejiro is sixth child in a family a large family of thirteen. He comes from Delta State in Nigeria’s South-South region. Born and raised in Warri, he studied Microbiology at the University of Benin for his Bachelors degree and studied for his MSc in Safety, Health and Environmental Management at the University of Southwales, UK.

The fast rising designer connected with his creative side from childhood.

“I always was in love with ART, not necessarily sewing but the idea of creating something just from my thoughts was amazing,” Utejiro told Student Pulse

Utejiro says his Couture Royale is a lifestyle brand engaged in the design and manufacture of fashion products.

3. Name: Johnson Olufisayo Ufuoma Brand Name:

Johnson Olufisayo Ufuoma is the second child in a family of four female children. Olufisayo is presently a second year fashion design student at Yaba College of Technology Lagos. Her brand name is Belle Array “a feminine brand for women of all shapes sizes and colour.”

“I believe that what a woman wears says a lot about her, so we focus on pieces that speak elegance, confidence and dauntlessness without trying too hard,” she said.

“We make our clients look effortlessly chic.”

4. Name: Luke-Adetule Gbenga Aderemi Brand Name:

Luke-Adetule Gbenga Aderemi is a final year student of Ladoke Akintola University of technology, Ogbomosho, Oyo. He is from Ekiti state. The eldest of three kids, Aderemi owns the fashion brand NVO (NAIJAS VERY OWN).

Gbenga’s romance with fashion started from childhood, he says.

“I have been a creative individual from a very tender age. I had flair for drawing and creative arts. I have learned to harness that talent and incorporate it into the fashion world, and it's been fun.”

NSFDW organisers say the yearly showcase “aims to discover new talent and give opportunities to those that would not normally be able to afford to participate at the major Nigerian Fashion Weeks.”

The 2014 edition will hold at the University of Lagos from Thursday 5th to Friday 6th of June.
