Comedienne and actress is one of Marie Claire's fresh faces

The world has fallen in love with Issa Rae and the talented actress has become the voice of a generation and now Marie Claire has made her their one to watch.

Issa Rae is unapologetically black and its refreshing tosee somebody who does so much for the culture get recognition from mainstream magazines such Marie Claire.

The multi-talented Issa has had a hit with show 'Insecure' and will become the first woman to host the CFDA fashion awards. Insecure has become a show which speaks for a whole generation of young, black people dealing with a variety of pertinent issues from dating to police brutality.

Marie Claire counts Issa as one of the women shaping the future of television and film and featured her in the issue alongside four other actresses who are collectively working towards making Hollywood great again.

ON HER GRATITUDE FOR WHAT HER SUCCESS HAS ENABLED HER TO DO:

“I’m happy and grateful to be in a position where I can want to see something, and then support the people who are telling stories I want to see.”

ON THE CHANGING LANDSCAPE OF HER HOMETOWN OF INGLEWOOD, CALIFORNIA:

“You see so many ‘For Lease’ signs go up because people are being pushed out. Part of me is conflicted—I want a cycling studio. I want a coffee shop. But it’s always at the expense of black and Latino people. There’s never an assumption that we could benefit, too.”

ON WHICH FRIENDS CHARACTER SHE WOULD BE:

“I would never peg myself as a Rachel. Definitely more of a Phoebe. Maybe with Monica neuroses.”

ON KEEPING HER PRIVATE LIFE PRIVATE:

“I get so much feedback about everything. The one thing I don’t need feedback on is who I’m sleeping with.”

Alongside Issa, Grown-ish actress Yara Shahidi is featured as well as Game of Thrones' Sophie Turner, Katherine Langford and Riley Keough. These young women are breaking barriers and making serious waves in their fields and are poised to be the ones to be reckoned with in the TV and film industry.
