  1.  Break into the heels. It’s always important to ‘break into heels’ first before taking them on a spin around town! It’s never advisable to wear a pair of heels without trying to ‘soften’ them before going out in them. The pain with doing this can cause lasting injuries to the feet.

  2.  Practise in heels before going out. It makes sense to wear heels few minutes (for about 30 minutes) before heading out for any event especially where it would be worn for hours on end before being pulled off. To ease pains in the feet, wear heels for a few minutes before wearing them for hours on end that way you can tell where pains and where can be supported.

  3.  Consider less towering heels with wide front. Physiotherapists would always advise to stay away from heels that are too tall but instead lower ones with sturdy support (thin heels cause more damage unlike one that stands strong and supports the frame). It also works to get heels with wide fronts to give extra support.

  4.  Choose fitting styles. It’s important to choose heels that support one’s frame/stature, foot structure/shape and more so as not to end up with heels that will alter/completely damage the natural way the feet is crafted. For instance some people have unusually longer/irregular shaped toes that fit into some certain heels, they should wear those styles which are usually more comfortable.

  5.  Get heel supports. Insoles, cushions etc crafted for some shoes are to be used to keep the feet comfortable, they help to make the feet sit just well and cause less damage.
