From sporty highlights to cropped tops and gold metallics, it was clear from the just concluded New York Fashion Week that fashion trends from the 90s are set to make a huge comeback in 2014. For the fashion savvy, this comes as no shocking news considering the fact that cropped tops and shiny metallics have been trending for a while now; Yvonne Nelson and her mid-riff baring cropped tees readily comes to mind.
Asides the new trends, others like the black and white trend and funky nail art witnessed a come-back as several designers like Marc Jacobs and Ralph Lauren extensively featured several pieces which saw a play of the black and white trend.
So, without further ado, we present to you the hottest trends to look out for against 2014 from the just concluded New York Fashion week.
1. All white everything: After two straight seasons of serious colour, neutrals are finally making a comeback with the heavy feature of all-white ensembles by designers. For us in the tropics, its a two-way street - on the one hand, the general tropical heat makes white a welcome colour due to its heat repelling effect, on the other hand though there's the dust and mud to consider. Either way, as with every fashion trend, there's a dozen and one ways this can be made to work.
2. Cropped Tops: Disclaimer - If you do not have flats abs, may we suggest you kindly skip this point and jug along to the next till said abs are nice, trim and cropped tees worthy, if you do however, sport a well-toned stomach, then by all means feel free to rock this trend. Cropped tees have been on the scene for a while now and if the New York Fashion Week has anything to say about it, then its about to trend full force.
3. Bold Lips: Vibrant lip colour was a major feature at the New York Fashion Week with James Kaliardos, a backstage make-up artiste describing the look as '18th century French connection train, the days of Marie Antoinette". With MAC churning out exciting shades of lip colour every other day, this shouldn't be a hard trend to rock.
4. Retro's the new cool: Faux-flannel plaids, cropped sweat tops and overalls were just some of the trends featured on the runway which borrowed a leaf from the baggy, ostentatious style of the 90s. Already, denim jackets have been the rage all summer long and from the look of things, they won't be the only 90's trend on the fashion scene for long.
5. Let's go sheer: Sheer tops and dresses were another hit on the runway with every other designer featuring at least one piece with a sheer twist to it. With the cropped tops and sheer blouses/dresses set to be a hit, there's only one moral of the story: 2014 is the year for the fit and fabulous, no loose ends hanging now!
