Cameroonian veteran journalist Peter Essoka, 73, and world recognized singer/songwriter Ben Decca received their first ever award at the Sonnah Awards 2013 after spending over 40 years in their diverse fields. The Cameroon Academy Awards (Sonnah Awards) took place at the Hilton Hotel, Yaounde - Cameroon on December 29.

Both stars got the Lifetime Achievement Awards for Music & Television for their remarkable contributions to Cameroon arts and culture over the years.

Mr. Essoka told reporters, “this is unbelievable...I am so grateful that a day finally came for the entire country and maybe the world to see what my job as a reporter had always been. I am thankful to the Sonnah team for recognizing that single fact...”

Meanwhile, receiving his Lifetime Achievement award in Music, Ben Decca appreciated his first time recognition in his home country and urged the nation to continue to support Cameroon music and appreciate the musicians.

Decca is best known for pushing the power of Makossa music outside Africa and almost single-handedly rose his family [The Deccas Dynasty] to fame in and out of Cameroon.

Sonnah Awards 2013 was a huge success and is looking towards a 2014 edition.
