From September 27 to October 1, 2024, the National Theatre in Lagos hosted the third edition of JDOT, which highlighted not only the craftsmanship of Jameson Irish Whiskey but also a varied spectrum of gastronomic delights.
Food has long been an important aspect of Nigerian culture, and JDOT celebrated this by collaborating with some of Lagos' most celebrated cuisine partners. On Day 4 of the Tour, gourmet junk food took center stage as JDOT collaborated with Kewa's Kitchen to provide an exceptional gastronomic experience that complemented the smooth, triple-distilled flavor of Jameson.
The Perfect Pairing: Whiskey Meets Gourmet Junk Food
Food pairing is no longer limited to fancy dining establishments, Jameson partnered with Kewa's Kitchen, known for its bold and inventive interpretations on street food, to transform what could be deemed "junk food" into gourmet delicacies that complemented nicely with whiskey.
As guests visited the Tour, they were greeted by food booths displaying a variety of gourmet junk food options, each tailored to combine with a unique Jameson cocktail. The goal was to defy traditional pairing conventions and demonstrate that whiskey could be enjoyed just as easily with a gourmet dirty bun as it could with a good steak.
Kewa's Kitchen served popular dishes such as crispy fried chicken, burgers piled high with innovative toppings, and loaded fries coated in rich, delicious sauces.
Spotlight on the Food Partners: Kewa's Kitchen
Jameson's relationship with Lagos' leading food entrepreneurs was instrumental in creating a unique gastronomic experience at JDOT 2024. Kewa's Kitchen has become a Lagos favorite for its ability to elevate ordinary dishes with robust tastes and a modern spin. Their idea of using fresh, locally sourced products to create scrumptious street food that caters to a diverse variety of tastes was perfectly linked with Jameson's values of inclusivity and authenticity.
A Culinary Celebration of Culture
The dining experience at JDOT demonstrated how Jameson, a brand with rich Irish origins, continues to find ways to connect with and celebrate the local communities with whom it works, through collaborations that recognize both its heritage and its audience's present culture.
As Bodam Taiwo, Head of Portfolio at Pernod Ricard Nigeria, described it, "JDOT is about more than just whiskey—it's about celebrating the experiences and people that enrich life. Food is a vital part of the Nigerian experience, and we're happy to have collaborated with fantastic partners such as Kewa's Kitchen to offer it to our JDOT community. The result was something genuinely unique."
