The book, "Marking pens and the fireflies" examines the life of 17 years Old Amarachi Okoro who was on the verge of writing her WAEC when she resolved her life goals. She will further her education unto PhD level, get a great job where she can finally afford all the luxuries life denied her and finally, she will marry the love of her life, Novie, her secondary school sweetheart.
Amara, however, comes from a very poor background. A family who cannot boast of 2 square meals daily talk less of university fees and so such lofty dreams cannot be supported, they told her this. They devised that after her secondary studies, they will marry her to a generous friend of the family, Uncle Franco, a man old enough to be her father.
Amarachi isn't threatened by this cruel faith because she has her own little scheme. She will write the annual scholarship examination so that finances will not be an excuse. Worst case scenario they shawn her disobedience, she can always stay with her elder sister who lives with her husband in Enugu.
Marking pens is written as a trilogy novel for the growing mind‐adolescents. The second part of this book focus on the events following when she realised her dreams. She got everything she wished for‐ even one of the most expensive apartments in Lagos city but at what price? Didn't they say be careful of what we ask/wish for?
Her husband is an aggressive man and an abuser, domestic violence is a disgraceful act and the victims seem to always be the one enduring the most shame. But was that enough reason to commit the most detestable crime to mankind? –murder.
