Erectile dysfunction happens when blood flow is limited (e.g by health problems) or the nerves in the penis are damaged (in which case you should for seek medical attention)

Sometimes, erectile dysfunction is caused by these common factors:
1. Alcohol
Heavy alcohol use is a major and common cause of erectile dysfunction. Too much alcohol in the system interfere with erections but the good thing is this is usually temporary.
2. Depression
Depression reduces your desire to have sex which can lead to erectile dysfunction. When the 'head' is depressed, the mood finds its way down there as well, leading to the condition.
3. Medicine/treatments
Some drugs (if you are on some sort of medication for instance due to certain health concerns) hinders effective performance hence erectile dysfunction.
4. Everyday stress
When everyday tiredness, stress, hustle and bustle get to you/stress takes its toll on the body and the penis as well.
5. Low Libido
A man who has a low libido will find it difficult to get or keep up an erection.
6. Anger/Anxiety
Anger contributes to performance problems for men as this (the mood) inhibits a hardon. Anxiety and worrying also get in the way of maintaining an erection. As mentioned above, the state of mind reflects 'penile function'
7. Health State
The state of one's health also greatly determines performance. A sick (depends on the nature of the sickness) guy for instance may find getting and maintaining erection difficult.
