There is no denying the popularity of diet, it is simply undeniably.

Unfortunately, a lot of these diets can be quite harmful to our health, but people disregard this just so they can join the band wagon, the following are diet habits to avoid.

  1. Cutting Carbohydrates- Any diet that cuts carbohydrates might work for a short period, but the long term effects are quite harmful and will cause you to gain weight. Regardless of what people say, your body actually need carbs or oligosaccharides (complex carbs) to protect cells and have energy to live. The trick is to cut down on foods that contain simple carbs(monosaccharides and disaccharides).

  2. Big Changes- Diets that encourage big/drastic changes are doomed to fail as these are quite difficult to do and do not stick in the long run. So, stick to small changes instead as these have a higher success rate.

  3. Skipping Meals- A lot of diets preach this, but this is a really bad habit as the results are overeating and harmful metabolic changes like delayed insulin release which can cause diabetes down the road.

  4. Detoxing- While this can be quite beneficial, doing it for ten days or more is very harmful to the muscles and will encourage a binging cycle.

  5. Eliminating Food Groups- Doing this is simply not healthy and frnakly, quite boring. In the long run, eliminating food groups can not sustain a person or reach their weight loss goal.

The important thing to remember before starting any diet is that any diet plan that eliminates all food groups, does not promote a lifestyle change or exercising is no good.
