Given this relationship between the skin and mind, stress-reducing techniques such as yoga can be beneficial for the skin.”

According to Christine Yu, yoga teacher, “I think that yoga helps you achieve a radiant glow by reducing stress and getting you to relax. When you’re relaxed, you’re not furrowing your brows or frowning, creating deep lines and wrinkles in the skin. Doing Yoga outside is a great way to feel nature around you. There’s a traditional Japanese practice called Shinrin-Yoku, or forest bathing, where people spend a great deal of time in nature to reduce stress and relax. According to Dr. Sejal Shah, “Sweat can help to loosen and release debris from the pores, clearing them out. But if the sweat is left on the skin too long, it can actually have a negative impact on pores, leading to heat rash, acne, or folliculitis. Sweat can also irritate the skin. So if you suffer from certain skin conditions like eczema or even dry skin, you might find that your skin is itchy, stinging or irritated with excess sweat.”

According to Christine Yu, yoga teacher, “While you’ll likely walk out of class with rosy cheeks, one side effect of all that sweat is that you tend to hydrate more before, during, and after hot yoga classes. And I think that the increased fluid intake has more of an impact on cleansing the system and keeping the skin healthy. ”
