Our bodies are the most complicated beautiful creations ever made. However, even the best creations come across issues. From headaches, to jet lags, to sore throats, things don’t always run so smoothly.

The good thing is we’ve been looking for ways to remedy them. So here are 10 little hacks to deal with the most common body issues:

  • Throat itch: Throat tickles are annoying. Scratching your ear, will stimulate nerves that can cause a muscle spasm in your throat. The spasm may relieve the tickle and urge to cough. The body is loaded with pressure points,  but this one comes in handy.

  • Nose bleed: Don’t pinch your nose and lean backward. Rather, apply pressure to your upper gums, directly under your nose. It has a vein in there that should stop the nosebleed when pressured. Leaning forward will also help.

  • Jet lag: The suprachiasmatic nucleus tells the brain when it should be awake based on when food is made ready. On a trip, change your meal schedule as close as possible to your destination -- sleep may ensue.

  • Hearing: Our ears are not created equal. When listening to a conversation happening away from you, angle your right ear in its direction (it's better at picking up speech patterns, apparently). The left, on the other hand is better at identifying music.

  • Hiccups: Holding your breath when you have hiccups is actually not good. Rather, breathe out totally, and then hold it and swallow continuously. With no pressure on your diaphragm, it should calm down.

  • Being drunk: When you’re tipsy, spinning sets in. Simply put your hand down on something flat and stable, like a desk. Contacting a flat surface will remind it that you’re on solid ground. It’s said that our hands are more sensitive than our feet.

  • Spicy foods: What’s behind most spicy food is the chemical capsaicin. If it’s too spicy, order a White Russian. The cream and vodka in it helps to soothe the burn. If a boozy cure doesn’t help, warm water will provide a little relief if you spit it out.

  • Motion sickness: Motion sickness is confusion between your body and eyes. The disconnect causes that queasy feeling. Focusing on the horizon is the best option, as well as, cracking a window in the car and breathing in cold air. It’s said that cold, clear air removes any odours that can make nausea even worse.

  • Up your metabolism: When you sleep, your body shuts down so the brain can handle its business. When you wake up, suck down a glass of water or two -- it’ll wake up your body and increase your metabolism.

  • Feeling presses: Sex actually drives away the urge to pee. If you’re feeling pressed and you don’t have access to a bathroom, think of something that turns you on and you’ll last longer.
