A young man found floating in a open body of water, has been confirmed dead.

A 20-year-old man has drowned after falling into an open water on Thursday, January 26, 2017, at Dam Agundi area of Kano State.

The deceased identified as Umar Muhammad was reportedly found floating in the water by someone in the neighborhood, who called the state Fire Service to the scene.

Daily Post reports that the information was disclosed by the Director of Kano State Fire Service, Alhaji Mustafa Rilwan, on Friday, January 27, 2017.

Rilwan said, “Upon receiving the information, we quickly dispatched our secure team and a vehicle to the scene, at about 7:00 p. m."

He added that the body was recovered and taken to the Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital, where doctors confirmed him dead.

Daily Post reports that the Director advised the general public to avoid bathing in open waters, urging them to fetch the water and take it to their bathrooms instead.
