Health body says Suya can cause cancer: How Nigerians reacted

The fact that it isn't the meat itself but the treatment carried out on it, to either sweeten or increase shelf life, that causes cancer, has brought an uproar on one of the biggest social mediums, Twitter.

Suya

Pulse.ng reported yesterday, October 26, that the Wold Health Organisation, WHO, has announced that processed meat is to be categorised along with cigarettes as a cause of cancer.

Eating processed meat can lead to bowel cancer in humans while red meat is a likely cause of the disease, World Health Organisation (WHO) experts said on Monday in findings that could sharpen debate over the merits of a meat-based diet.

Suya has inevitably been associated with the exact kind of meat to avoid but Twitter users are not taking it lying down.

Suya has served as a street snack and even full meals for years and many are not ready to let go of this meaty treat.

The hilarious tweets just kept pouring in as Suya began to trend and is still the 3rd most trending subject on Twitter at the moment.
