Kenyan woman gets life sentence for bathing husband with acid
A Kenyan woman has been sentenced to life imprisonment for bathing her husband with acid.
The Embu Magistrate Court presided over by Magistrate Robinson Oigara, handed down the sentence, refusing to accept Rugur's plea that she was acting in self defence when she attacked her husband with the substance.
The couple had gotten into a fight on July 16, and in the process, Ruguru poured the acid on her husband but in court, she narrated that it was Njue who actually wanted to pour the substance on her but that she overpowered him and instead, bathed him with it.
Oigara dismissed her claims, affirming that she would have sustained some injuries if that was the case.
Reports reveal that on the day of the incident, Ruguru was said to have prepared the children for school and after completing her house chores, walked into their bedroom where her husband was and, according to Njue, she walked directly to the bed and splashed the acid on him.
She then locked the door and escaped only for the neighbours to hear screams from the house and came to his rescue.
According to evidence presented in court, on hearing her husband was still alive; Ruguru rushed to the hospital where Njue was admitted in an attempt to finish her mission, but was later arrested.
