Immigration topped the most searched words in American states. The other top searches were abortion, gun control, economy and ISIS. These keywords were hot topics during the US presidential elections.

Donald Trump who will be the next President of the United States has an immigration policy that has raised a lot of eyebrows. The Republican plans on building a wall on the US-Mexico border to keep immigrants out and once stated that Muslims from terrorist countries would not allow entry into the United States.

As Donald Trump surged in the election, the immigration website of Canada crashed.

The Canadian immigration website crash in the early hours of today November 9, 2016, after news broke that Donald Trump had taken the lead against in the race for the White House.

Over the past 18-month campaign period, Trump has repeatedly expressed controversial statements against immigrants and people of colour fueling emigration sentiments in the US.

Several Americans flocked to the Canadian immigration website leading to its crash as it was flooded with an unexpected query load.

Popular Canadian politician Norm Kelly also tweeted a screenshot of his direct messages showing several people seemingly looking for help with immigration to Canada.

It is unclear if that is the sole reason for the Canadian immigration site going bust, but that seems to be the leading theory as at press time.
