The family of a 41-year-old mother of two, Abimbola Mordi, have sent out a passionate save-a-soul plea to kind hearted Nigerians to come to their aid to help raise the sum of N15 million for her to undergo a surgery for leukaemia, a dreaded and rare form of cancer.

The business woman who is currently on admission at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), needs to go for an immediate blood transfusion if she is to live.

In a statement made available to newsmen, her helpless husband, Victor Mordi, said that experts at the hospital told them she needed N15 million to tackle the disease. The money, he said, would cover air ambulance, treatment and recovery outside the country.

"Already, she had undergone the first stage of the draining and painful process of chemotherapy. According medical report at the hospital, it was noticed that her platelet had broken down completely.

Her doctor, Dr Olaitan Adewunmi, said all functions of her red blood cell had been deranged."

The sick woman who is hoping warm hearted Nigerians would come to her aid, narrated the genesis of the ailment that struck her immediately after giving birth two years ago, when she started experiencing general body weakness, a situation linked to old age.

She noted that when she discovered that her legs were swollen, she was alarmed, adding that this was the reason she went for a laboratory test in March.

She said:

"Three days after, the result came, it was indicated that my PVC was just at a misery of 14, test revealed I have leukaemia."

Her husband explained that the disease had devastated the family since the diagnoses.
