Two police officers who were dismissed from the force have been arrested by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), of the Anambra State Police Command for armed robbery after they teamed up to form a dangerous gang.

The two turn-coat officers, Corporal I.L.O. Peter, 38, was serving at Oguta Division of the Imo State Command before he got the boot while his partner in crime, Constable Nicholas Ogbianu, 37, was dismissed from the force while serving at the Delta State Police Command.

They decided to form a gang, using their uniforms to terrorise the residents of Onitsha and its environs before they were arrested for robbery and for impersonation respectively.

The State Commissioner of Police, Hosea Karma, while parading the suspects, said they had laid siege to the town, robbing people at random and when people kept reporting that they were robbed by policemen in different parts of the town, he created a special team which traced and arrested them.

“The gang has been involved in several cases of armed robbery operations and snatching of cars along Onitsha-Owerri Expressway and robbed several commercial vehicles both during the day and at night.

Also, we also got intelligence information that some policemen had been robbing people along the highway. So we set up a monitoring team that worked with the Commander of SARS and his men.

That was how we arrested the suspect, Corporal Peter and his gang members during their operation.”
