Troublesome Man remanded in prison for damaging police property

The accused, along with an accomplice who is still at large according to reports, broke out of the police cell where they were being held.

A 24-year-old man, Seun Olamilekan, on Tuesday, June 21, 2016, has been remanded at the Kirikiri Prisons in Lagos for damaging a police cell.

Olamilekan was arraigned by an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court on a three-count charge of conspiracy, damage and escaping from lawful custody.

Magistrate Mrs E. Kubeinje, who presided over the case ordered that the accused remain in prison after pleading guilty to the charges.

Inspector Essien Ndarake, who is the prosecutor, stated that Olamilekan committed the crime on May 31, 2016, at the Alagbado Police Station in Lagos.

According to Ndarake, the accused, along with an accomplice destroyed the police cell to ensure their escape.

He said, “The accused damaged the iron rod of the cell gate to escape at night.”

Olamilekan, who was earlier detained over an alleged theft, was later found at Abule-Iroko in Ogun State.

“A surveillance team moved immediately to the place and ambushed him. Even on his way to Lagos, the accused jumped down from the vehicle and took to his heels, but he was given a chase and re-arrested.”

The case has been adjourned till July 5, 2016, for further hearing.
