Trouble Immigration officers in police net for killing colleague

Some officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service have been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for killing their colleague.

A couple of the Nigeria Immigration officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service have been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for killing their colleagues.

The ugly incident happened on Saturday, January 24 at the departure terminal of the Seme border, Lagos.

According to a Punch report, about 2pm, the immigration officers intercepted a commercial bus at the border, which was suspected to be conveying illegal immigrants.

The suspects who were said to be thugs engaged in a fight with the immigration officers before fleeing the scene.

During the scuffle with the thugs,  an immigration officers accidentally shot a fellow officer simply known as Egun in the neck.

Egun was rushed to the Badagry General Hospital, but gave up the ghost on the way. He was confirmed dead on arrival by a doctor at the hospital.

Police from the Badagry Police Division arrested the officers on duty during the incident. The matter was reported to the Badagry Police Division, while the police arrested all the officers on duty at the border during the incident.

The case has also been transferred to the State Criminal Investigations Department, Yaba, where further investigations were ongoing.

The spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, confirmed the arrest and also revealed that the Nigerian Immigration Service authorities are collaborating on the investigation into the incident.

 “The group of persons, who engaged the officers, is still at large. The corpse of the officer has been deposited at the Badagry General Hospital’s morgue while investigation continues. The two agencies ─ the police and the NIS ─ are collaborating to investigate the murder incident,” Kenneth Nwosu told Punch.
