A married couple-Mrs. Nwabueze Nwabueze and Mrs. Bridget Nwabueze- has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for a N16.9m scam.
Married couple arrested for N16.9M scam
Husband and wife were arrested by men of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for their involvement in N16.9m.
According to a statement by the spokesperson of the crime commission, Wilson Uwujaren, the couple along with couple was arrested alongside another suspect, Eze Ngozi for allegedly defrauding a certain Austin Emuan of the Gothic-Len Consortium Limited of N16.9m.
Mr Austin Emuan allegedly made a payment of N16.9m for a non-existing contract.
Wilson Uwujaren said that the Nwabuezes and Eze Ngozi were said part of a group which engaged in fraudulent acts, obtaining by false pretences and impersonation.
“The suspects’ arrest followed a petition from Austin Emuan, who is the Managing Director of Gothic-Len Consortium, alleging that one Miss Joy Ozioma (now at large), Nwabueze and others, sometime in 2011, defrauded him of N16. 9m under the pretext of awarding his company a contract for construction of a cottage hospital in Obagi community by Total Nigeria Limited,” part of Wilson’s statement read.
The EFCC said that one of the scammers who claimed to be traditional ruler of Obagi community connived with Eze Ngozi, who posed as an employee of Total Nigeria Limited, to defraud Emuan’s company of the said sum and 600 bags of rice before the project was discovered to be a phony deal.
The suspects would be taken to court as soon as investigation was concluded.
