A traditional title holder in Katsina State has been suspended from his position for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl.
News Agency of Nigeria reports that the top title holder, Bishir Bala Kofar-bai who is the Magatakarda of Katsina was told to step aside while investigations continue in the matter.
The suspension of Kafar-bai was contained in a letter signed by Alhaji Bello Ifo, the Secretary of the council, which stated that the suspension was with immediate effect.
Kofar-bai is said to be currently standing trial for an alleged rape of a 15-year-old girl in his house in Katsina about two weeks ago.
The traditional title holder was alleged to have raped the victim when she was sent to his house by her father who was one of his servants. When the girl got home, she informed her parents who took her to the hospital for medical treatment.
The parents reported the matter to police which led to the arrest and detention of Kofar-bai for investigations.
The Coalition of Civil Society Organisations is said to be mounting pressure on the police to ensure justice is done in the matter to serve as a deterrent to others.
