A 42-year-old man, Emenike Egwuonu, has been arrested by the police in Kubwa, a satellite town in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, for allegedly defrauding his wife, Lorita, to the tune of N50,000, the Daily Trust reports.
Husband in trouble for duping wife of 50k
A man has been arrested in Abuja for stealing money from his wife' bank account.
It was gathered that Egwuonwu who lives with his wife and four children in the Phase 4 area of the town, had stolen his wife's ATM card and used it to withdraw the money without her consent.
The report add that aside the card, the man also stole N5,500 from his wife's bag and obtained the pin number to the card from her handset.
According to a source, the woman has been the bread winner in the family for sometime as her husband had not been working for a while but he was in the habit of stealing her money.
Lorita got to know of the theft when she got an alert of a debit transaction from her account and she went to complain at the bank.
A photograph of her husband captured while making the withdrawal and when she confronted him, he denied being the one and even beat her up.
It was in the heat of the beating that Lorita ran to the Kubwa Police Division and reported the case and Egwuonwu was arrested.
The suspect's brother who lives nearby and knows what the woman has been going through, condemned what he did.
“The wife had been the one catering for the entire family, and I’ve not seen her complain any day. It is just an act of ingratitude,” he said.
