Court sends teenager to rehabilitation Centre for throwing Marijuana into Kirikiri Prisons
The convict had thrown a wrap of cannabis sativa, alias Hemp, weighing 3.3kg, into the prison compound, for the benefit of one Taofeek, a detainee.
The accused was arraigned by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on a charge of drug trafficking.
He pleaded guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, Mr Jeremiah Aernan, consequently reviewed the facts of the case before the court, and tendered the narcotic substance in evidence.
He urged the court to convict the accused based on evidences adduced.
Delivering his judgment, Justice Ibrahim Buba found the accused guilty of the offence.
Buba, however, taking into consideration the age of the accused, ordered that he be remanded at a rehabilitation Centre for three months, and also remanded at the NDLEA custody for one month, for counselling.
The convict was said to have committed the offence on April 14 at the premises of the Kirikiri Prisons in Apapa, Lagos.
The prosecutor said that the convict had thrown a wrap of cannabis sativa, alias Hemp, weighing 3.3kg, into the prison compound, for the benefit of one Taofeek, a detainee.
He said that the convict was consequently arrested and charged.
According to Aernan, the offence contravenes the provisions of Section 11(c) of the NDLEA Act, Laws of the Federation, 2004.
The Act provides for a term of life imprisonment, if found guilty of drug trafficking.
