As part of their investigations into the circumstances surrounding the alleged suicide of a senior manager with the First City Monument Bank (FCMB), Olisa Nwakoby, in front of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, Lekki, Lagos State, the State Police Command has invited and interrogated the Parish Priest of the church.
The 44-year-old Nwakoby had reportedly shot himself to death on Friday, July 29, following alleged bad loans totalling a whopping N350 million he had approved for a customer who failed to pay it back and pressure was mounting on him to pay the loans.
It was gathered that shortly before killing himself, Nwakoby had visited the Priest and allegedly left a message for his wife, urging her to take good care of their child and as a result, the police invited the Priest for questioning as primary witness, hoping to get more information from him.
A source close to the deceased, confirmed he was disturbed by his debt burden:
“He was very worried when he came to me to narrate his debt burden. I was shocked to hear that he had killed himself despite all the assurances I gave him. This is the most heartbreaking moment of my life,” the source said.
