Woman hangs herself after husband took second wife

A wife in Malawi has committed suicide after her husband took a second wife.

Mary who hails from Chibaka village in T/A Mankhambira in the district of Nkhata-Bay, according to the report, had threatened to kill herself if her 27-year-old husband went ahead to get married to another woman and carried out her threat instead of sharing her husband with another woman.

A resident of Nkhata-Bay narrated how the incident happened:

“The deceased decided to hang herself in her house only to be caught red handed in the course by her husband.

The husband rescued her and immediately took her to Nkhata-Bay District Hospital later while receiving treatment.”

A postmortem conducted at the hospital revealed that death was due to strangulation.
