Corps member commits suicide because girlfriend dumped him

A member of the National Youth Service scheme has reportedly committed suicide because his girlfriend dumped him.

This could well pass as the most stupid acts of the year when a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), serving at the Redemption Secondary School, Ofombogha 1 in Obubra local government area of Cross River State, allegedly committed suicide because his girlfriend dumped him for another man.

It was learnt that the Edo State born deceased met the lady, a fellow corps member serving in the same school, named Chioma Okewuru and had proposed to her but his world came crumbling when the girl travelled to her village only to come back spotting an engagement ring from another man.

The graduate of the University of Benin could not come to terms that the lady he was madly in love with was going to marry another man and decided to take his life.

The acting DPO for Obubra, Noah Ntuen, spoke to Vanguard on the circumstances that led to Ernest's suicide:

"The girl had told the guy that she would not marry him, but that they could be friends. So when she came back from home last weekend and showed him the ring her husband-to-be gave her, the young man became furious.

On Wednesday, the situation became worse and at about 7pm, he locked himself in the room and took some poisonous substances."

Ntuen said the body had been deposited in the mortuary of Obubra General Hospital, while Chioma is with the police, where investigations on the circumstances surrounding the tragic death are in progress.
