A five year old girl has been found dead in a dugout of an uncompleted building at Mangu, a suburb of Wa in the Upper West Region.

The body of the girl was found on Monday morning in a bag popularly known as “Ghana must go” by a pito brewer whose activities is only about 20 meters away from the building.

According to reports by TV3, the girl was believed to have gone missing on Thursday evening after a downpour, but was not found after a police report and subsequent radio announcements.

After four days of a fruitless search, a pito brewer, Madam Enetazie Dumba, whose activities is just about 20 meters away from an uncompleted building in the area found the body which was decomposing.

“I was sweeping around my premises when I felt a stench emanating from the area so I scaled the blocks and saw a lot of flies coming out from the area only to realize that it was the body of a human being; so I shouted and people came around”.

When police arrived at the scene, the main gate to the compound was locked and nobody from the public was willing to volunteer information about the owner of the house.

The police however broke into the compound where the body was retrieved.

The father of the deceased, Mr. Asani Yaw, a worker at Anglogold Ashanti, was able to identify the body of her daughter by her waist beads.

Police investigation proves that the head of the girl has been cut opened whiles her private parts were also missing. The police suspects the murder was for ritual purposes.

The Upper West Regional Public Relations Officer of the Police, ASP Joy Afagbedzi, expressed her disappointment over the failure of members of the public to aid police with vital information, but says investigations are underway.

Traditional authorities in the area have also condemned such heinous crimes in the region.
