3 employees docked for alleged theft of 200 bags of polyvinyl chloride

Olabode Kolawole,52; Emmanuel Lambo, 39, and Musa Saliu, 47, all residents of Ogba Area of Ikeja, are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Mike Unah, told the court that the accused committed the offences sometime in November 2016 at Karishima Industries Ltd, located at Beckley Estate Area of Abule Egba, Ikeja.
He alleged that Kolawole, who was a driver at Karishima industries conspired with two of his co-workers to steal 200 bags of polyvinyl chloride and calcium carbonate, worth N48.4 million.

Unah said that the driver brought in 600 bags of polyvinyl chloride and calcium carbonate to the company’s warehouse, on a daily basis.
Unah said that on that fateful day, Kolawole, Lambo and Saliu conspired to offload 200 bags of the company’s industrial material at another location, to avoid any suspicion from their employer, Karishima industries Ltd.
The prosecutor said that when the company finally discovered that some of their workers were stealing from them, they started investigating all their workers.
He said that the trio became restless when they discovered that the company was investigating all of them.
Unah said that when the management discovered that the trio were acting in a dubious manner, they reported the matter to the police and they were arrested as suspects.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The trio, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge levied against them.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 prescribes three years imprisonment for stealing, while Section 411 stipulates two years in prison for conspiracy.
The Senior Magistrate, Mrs A.O Gbajumo, granted the accused bail in the sum of N500,000 each, with two sureties each in like sum.
Gbajumo said the sureties must be gainfully employed and also present evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

She adjourned further hearing in the case until July 3, for mention.
