Bayo Odunayo, 28, has been docked before a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Ondo town for rape and attempted suicide, after he allegedly raped a 14-year-old girl, Vanguard reports.

Police prosecution witness, Sergeant Olagbayi Bernard, said the accused did unlawfully have carnal knowledge of a 14-year-old girl at Bolorunduro in Bolorunduro Magisterial District, at about 2p.m. on July 31.

Olagbayi added that the accused, on August 2, at about 1p.m. at the Nigeria Police Station cell, Bolorunduro Division in the magisterial district, did attempt to kill himself by using a long sleeve shirt to hang himself to the ceiling in the cell and, thereby, committed another offence.

The offence, according to him, is contrary to and punishable under Sections 218 and 327 of the Criminal Code Cap 37Vol1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

However, the accused person after listening to the charge, pleaded not guilty.

The police prosecutor presented three witnesses before the court, including the parent of the victim and the victim.

Chief Magistrate Gbenga Awodeyi, in his ruling, transferred the case to the Chief Magistrate Court at Bolorunduro, Ondo East Local Government Area of the state for proper prosecution and adjourned the case till August 12.
