Woman axes pregnant co-wife for taking over husband, hangs self

A sex-starved woman has killed herself after she attacked her co-wife with an axe over their husband.

A sex-starved Zimbabwean woman, Alice Makohomero, almost axed her pregnant co-wife, Teriza Mupfumriwa, to death during a fight over their husband, Cherechedzai Takawira.

The jealous woman had accused the younger wife of always 'monopolising' all alone every other night and getting all the sexual pleasures, leaving her starved.

The 35-year-old Makohomero, from Takawira village, according to the Chronicle, proceeded to hang herself.

The deceased woman was said to have engaged the pregnant woman in a fight over the issue and in the process, used an axe to hit Mupfumriwa on twice the head. When she saw that her rival had slumped, she ran away, only for her body to be found hanging on a tree.

A relative, Rafael Mutombwa, narrated the circumstances leading to the incident:

"It was in the morning around 11am, Makohomero asked why Mupfumirwa woke up late yet she knew that it was her turn to do household chores.

Mupfumirwa felt that Makohomera had no right to tell her what to do even if she was the senior wife.

Makohomero was incensed by the response. She also accused her co-wife of getting too much attention from their husband. Makohomero complained that ever since her husband married a second wife, she had been sexually starved."

The second wife reportedly argued that she deserved more attention owing to the fact that she was pregnant and more beautiful compared to the senior wife. It was the response that infuriated the first wife and it led to the fight

Mutombwa continued:

"After realising that she was being overpowered by the eight-month-pregnant Mupfumirwa, Makohomero pulled an axe from a pile of firewood and struck her twice on the head. Mupfumirwa fell down, bleeding profusely until she became unconscious."

Realising the gravity of what she had done, Makohomero fled into the bush. It was when the police arrived the scene that a search party was organised and her body was later found hanging from a tree.
