Sales representative docked over alleged N515, 000 fraud

The accused allegedly stole N515, 000 proceeds made from lotto sales and property of one Adeyemi Olalubi.

The accused, who was a sales representative at a lotto shop, resides at Kofoworola St., Abule Egba, a suburb of Lagos.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Rosemary Ehemegbe, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Nov. 13, 2016 at Premier Lotto shop, located at Abule Egba area of Lagos.

She alleged that the accused stole N515, 000 proceeds made from lotto sales and property of one Adeyemi Olalubi.

“Instead of remitting the sales proceeds into his employer’s account, Adebiyi bolted with the money,’’ he told the court.

The prosecutor said that the complainant reported the case to the police and the accused was traced to his apartment and was arrested for further questioning.

According to her, the offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 285 prescribes three-year jail term for stealing.

The Magistrate, Mrs E. Kubeinje, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till March 8 for mention.
