Landlord docked after he removed tenant's roof, stole N45k

A landlord in Abuja has been charged before a court sitting in the FCT for allegedly breaking into his tenants' room and stealing money.

It was gathered that Kudu, a resident of Suka village along the Airport Road in the city, is facing a two-count charge after he was reported at the Iddo Police Station on July 15, by Benjamin Nyor and Zainab Abubakar, and is facing a two-count charge of mischief and theft, preferred against him by police.

The prosecuting counsel, Ukoha Ndidi, told the court that Nyor and Abubakar, of the same address, reported that the landlord had intentionally climbed up and removed the rooftop of their apartment, while they were not at home.

Ndidi further told the court that the defendant broke into Zainab’s apartment and stole her N45,000, an offence she said contravenes Sections 287 and 95 of the Penal Code.

However, when the charges were read to him, Kudu pleaded not guilty and the presiding judge, Garba Ogbede, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000, with two sureties each in like sum, while adjourning the case till August 31 for hearing.
