The actions of President Muhammadu Buhari and his Vice, Prof. Yomi Osinbajo, to publicly declare their assets in line with their campaign promises, has been received by Nigerians with mixed feelings.
Readers support Buhari's directives for officials to declare assets
90% of Pulse Nigeria Poll voters agree that government officials should declare their assets.
There are those who believe the two leaders did what is morally right even if it is not mandatory while others think they should not have bothered, anyway.
Now the President has charged other elected officials and government appointees to follow his example and declare their assets so as to curb corruption in the country.
Many government functionaries, especially the governors and lawmakers, are opposed to this directive and have vowed never to declare their assets using the constitution to back themselves up.
Though it is not enshrined in the constitution and no one is mandated to declare his assets, many Nigerians believe it is morally right and a good step to follow if we are to battle the scourge of corruption to a stand still.
On the basis of the argument, Pulse Nigeria Poll put up this poser:
How Nigeria voted:
90% - Yes, it will be a good step in fighting corruption
10% - No, since it is not in the constitution
