Readers say there is nothing wrong in a wife assisting her husband financially

72% of Pulse Nigeria Poll voters are in agreement that there is nothing wrong in a wife assisting her husband financially.

A real sad husband

Marriage is supposed to be a union where the husband and wife helps one another in times of difficulty but for some, the reverse is the case.

It is the duty of the man to provide for his family but in situations where the man is down financially, the woman should help out if she has the means.

A Pulse reader sent in this very touching letter on how his wife has refused to help out even when he is having financial difficulties.

"My name is Cletus and I have been married for five years now with two kids. Before I got married, I was working in a bank and though I would not say I was rich, I was comfortable and I gave my family the best I could.

But two years ago, there was a downsizing in my office and I was affected. That was how I lost my job and things took a turn for the worse as I could not provide for my family again. I am not a lazy man and I have tried to get a new job all to no avail.

I resorted to using my car to hustle and from my area in Mowe, Ogun State, to Ajah in Lagos but as if the devil is after me, the engine of the car broke down in March this year and I have been running from pillar to post to get money to fix it to no avail.

Meanwhile, my wife works in a big conglomerate and earns quite good but she  showed me her true colour when I lost my job. She blames me for my misfortunes and even knowing my situation, she would not render any assistance. I still struggle to pay the children's school fees and other bills and anytime I fail to provide money for food, she will insult the hell out of me.

The other day, I practically begged her to lend me some money to fix my car so I can continue hustling till God answers my prayers but she told me point blank that it is not the place of a wife to give money to her husband.

I am quite fed and I don't know what to do.
