A whopping 93% of PNP voters say a man must provide for his family even if his wife earns more than he does.

In a marriage, it is expected that the husband should be able to provide for his family no matter the circumstances. In fact, the Holy Book states clearly that a man who cannot provide for his family is worse than an infidel, lay greater responsibility on the husband, irrespective of how much his wife earns.

But there are also arguments to the effect that if a woman is better placed than her husband, she should be able to take care of some basic things in the home rather than wait for her husband to do every thing.

There is an ongoing debate on what should actually be the contributions of a woman towards the upkeep of the home, especially when she has the means to do so. But some women have shirked any family obligation to their husbands, hiding under the rule that a man must provide for the family.
