Pulse Nigeria Poll readers have voted unanimously that a man that set his wife on fire should be sentenced to life imprisonment.
While Mary Sunday, a once bubbly young lady has been deformed for life by a man she loved and hoped to live with for the rest of her life, the man who set her on fire and destroyed her life three years ago, Isaac Gbawuran, a police officer, is still walking free, going to work and is probably married to another woman.
The 2012 case which saw Gbawuran commit the atrocious crime against his wife, a graduate of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where he threw a burning stove with boiling stew on her over allegations of infidelity, had been swept under the carpet by his colleagues who came up with the damning verdict that the woman actually harmed herself.
But the the Women Advocates Research and Documentation Centre (WARDC), a non profit civil rights organization that fights for the rights of abused and violated women, has come out urging the police to reopen the case with a view of bringing the culprit to book.
On the strength of that, Pulse Nigeria Poll came up with this poser:
How Nigeria voted:
58% - He should be jailed for life
15% - He should also be set on fire
22% - He should be sentenced to death
8% - He should be forgiven
How would you vote?
