Pulse readers agree it is best to tell a fiancé if they once dated the father

Pulse Nigeria Poll voters say it is better to reveal if one dated a parent of a fiance/fiancee in the past.

Sad Linda

On May 8, 2015, a Pulse reader, Linda, sent in a letter asking for advice after it turned out that she is engaged to a man whose father she once dated.

When the young man introduced her to his family, his father told him point blank that he is not going to marry her.

Part of her letter reads:

"My name is Linda and I am a 26-year-old lady based in Abuja. I have a problem which I hope your readers would be able to offer me some advice before I make any further mistake.

I met this wonderful young man, Raymond, when about a year ago and I must say, he is the best thing to ever happen to me.

Ray loves me so much and has proposed to me but the problem is that I once dated his father when I was in the university. It was at a party organized by a politician and some girls in our school were invited.

It was at the party that I met Chief and we had an affair that lasted till I graduated. We were still dating off and on till Ray came into my life and I cut all links with Chief and any fling I had.

I did not want anything to jeopardize my relationship with him and I was so happy when he proposed to me and invited me to meet his parents.

But I got the greatest shock of my life when his father turned out to be the Chief I had dated before. The man too was surprise but he maintained his cool and the next day, he invited me to his guest house and there, he told me point blank that I cannot marry his son because he had slept with me several times."

Her problem was that she did not know if she should tell Raymond that she once dated his father or allow him to find out from his father.

The poser for that day on Pulse Nigeria Poll was:

As usual, there were lots of respondents with 95.45 percent of voters advising Linda to open up to her man while a mere 4.55 percent believe it is better for her to keep quiet about the past.
