Joy is like the Holy Grail, and everyone is in search of it. However it has proved elusive, and when gotten a hold of, ephemeral and fleeting.
Find a piece of joy each day
“It is a joy that has a slender body that breaks too soon”- Ola Rotimi, ‘The gods are not to blame’.
But is life meant to be this hard? Granted, it’s a perilous journey, this life. But your attitude to living it will largely determine how pleasant or unpleasant your experience is with life.
You can choose to walk with joy every single day, no matter how hard it is. Just hold some amount of joy, no matter how little, in your heart, and you can get through any difficult patch, one day at a time.
I had a clique of friends in secondary school, we were close and we genuinely loved each other with teenage innocence. After secondary school, in a group of about six, only two of us did not gain admission into the university.
It was sad and depressing, but it didn’t get me down, I knew I just had to try the next year, and try harder. Was it hard? Yes, definitely.
But I chose to walk with joy. I was happy for my friends who had gotten into university, and I attended their matriculation ceremony.
The next year, two of us who didn’t gain admission the previous year eventually got in, and we were once more reunited with our friends. What’s more, we all graduated the same year because they did five year courses while we the latecomers did four year courses.
Try it, walk with joy today, and see how you progress with joy in life, then you’ll see that life isn’t as hard as you imagine it to be.
