Pregnant woman seeks dissolution of 22-yr-old marriage

A pregnant woman, Biola Gani-Ajala on Thursday approached an Iyana – Offa Grade C Customary Court in Oyo State seeking the dissolution of her 22-year-old marriage to her husband, Kadir, on grounds of infidelity and lack of care.

Biola, who accused her husband of infidelity and abandonment, told the court that the development drove her to seek for love outside of her matrimonial home.

The complainant, who said the union produced three children, also insisted that her eight-month pregnancy did not belong to Kadir.

She further accused Kadir of neglecting her and her three children , saying “I am not comfortable with the marriage again.

“I have packed out from his house long before I started dating Mr Monmodu Adeyemo.

“I am not interested in my husband again, he only got me pregnant, he was not taking good care of me and was even threatening to kill me anytime I complained.

“We have been married for 22 years but I don’t want him again,’’ she told the court.

She also said four women had children for him without taking up the responsibilities.

But Kadir urged the court not to accede to the request of his wife, insisting that he was still in love with her and was responsible for her pregnancy.

“I know I am the one responsible for her pregnancy. Please, help me beg ‎my wife not to leave me because I love her so much and I have nothing against her or her attitude,’’ he said.

‎In his ruling, the Deputy President of the court who presided, Mr Omoniyi Supo, adjourned the case till Feb. 22 for further hearing.
