The female lawyer who refused to take off her Hijab is worthy of praise

Amasa Firdaus' actions now have the country talking about religion and its place in governmental institutions.

Her resilience, while it cost her being called to the bar, helped create awareness on an issue that has been going on for the past five decades.

Female Muslim lawyers are expected to wear only their wigs and nothing else. You cannot wear your wig on your Hijab. Firdaus' refusal to comply with this age-long tradition became a viral hit and sparked a much-needed conversation on the matter.

"My major concern is the approval of Hijab so that every person coming behind me will be able to use it for the call to bar (ceremony)" she told Premium Times.

Ms Amasa Firdaus should be applauded for her courage and resolve to challenge an old system. Her action has started up a debate that we hope would not die a quick death.

We are all entitled to freedom of religion but where does that freedom start and stop? These are the questions Firdaus has brought to the limelight.

For her action, she gets the prop of the week.
