Chinese men undergo electrical shock therapy to ‘cure’ their homosexuality

According to Metro UK, the therapy pictures went viral after some Gay activists conducted a secret filming in a Chinese hospital where the therapy is taking place.

It shows a medical professional explaining to the men, who attend the sessions voluntarily, various methods of silencing their ‘urges’, including taking a cold shower, going for a run, or even taking prescribed drugs.

At a different hospital another activist secretly films himself receiving electrical shocks by a nurse – the intention being that when the men experience homosexual urges they will associate them with the pain of the electric shock.

Despite homosexuality being legal in China, it is still not accepted in the society.

China removed homosexuality from their list of mental illnesses 15 years ago, however it is still a taboo subject in many parts of the country.

Metro UK reported that, One of the activists attributed the perceived lack of tolerance for gay people in China to teachings by the philosopher Confucius, who he claims said: ‘One of the most disrespectful thing to your parents is not to have an offspring.’
