Blind young man cries for help

A young Nigerian gospel artiste who suddenly became blind is begging Nigerians for assistance to undergo corrective surgery.

A young Nigerian who feels he cannot allow his disability to stop him from being useful to himself, Chijoke Anthony Onyenwe, has cried out to public spirited Nigerians for financial assistance to undergo a surgery that will restore his eyesight.

The 27-year-old Onyenwe's eye problem started in 2011 after he woke up one morning and discovered that his right eye was hurting him. He went from one hospital to the other in search of a solution but instead of the eye getting better, the pain spread to the left eye and before he knew what was happening to him, he had gone blind, truncating his dreams of pursuing a gospel musical career.

After traversing many hospitals in the country, there seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel for him as doctors at the Eye Foundation Hospital, Ikeja, Lagos, told him he could actually get a surgery that would repair the damage and he would see again.

But there is a caveat: he has to come up with the sum of N2 million for the surgery.

Onyenwe who has only his widowed mother is now crying out to Nigerians and kind-hearted corporate bodies to come to his aid to raise the money so he could have the surgery and live his life again.

According to the document signed by Dr. F. O. Oluyadi, Consultant Ophthalmologist at the Eye Foundation Hospital, Onyenwe was found to have right cornea apacity which will need cornea transplant.

The cost of the surgery for the right eye is as follows; cornea, cornea transplant, surgery, admission and post-operative medications, total N2m.

But a tearful Onyenwe said he and his mother cannot raise such an amount.

"I cannot see for now. I appeal to good Nigerians to raise this money for the surgery. The doctor said that my cornea is bad.

He said the cornea transplant will enable me regain my sight. My widowed mother is just a trader. We can’t afford the N2m."

Onyenwe believes in the goodness and kindness of Nigerians and have faith they would assist him.

God bless you.
