For allegedly raping an eight-year-old girl, a 40-year-old man,

It was gathered that Oshai, a resident of 624, Ikota Housing Estate, Lekki, Lagos, lured the girl into his apartment when her parents were not around and forcefully had sexual intercourse with her.

The police prosecutor in the case, Sergeant Anthonia Osayande had told the court presided over by Chief Magistrate Ipaye Nwachukwu, that the accused committed the offence at about 2pm on October 11, 2016, and the crime was discovered by the victim's mother when she returned from an outing.

Sergeant Osayande added that the offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

When the charge of rape was read to him, Oshai pleaded not guilty and Chief Magistrate Nwachukwu granted Oshai bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Before adjourning the case to December 20 for a mention, Chief Magistrate Nwachukwu insisted that one of the sureties should be gainfully employed with verified address and should provide evidence of tax payments to the court.
