The Ogun State Police Command has come out with a statement saying that the arrest and prosecution of the man who named his dog Buhari had nothing to do with President Muhammadu Buhari.

In the release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), of the command, ASP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the command had to come out with the explanation owing to the fact that many Nigerians had misconstrued the circumstances leading to the arrest of Chinakwe, with many attributing his travails to President Muhammadu Buhari, thinking that Chinakwe was persecuted because he named his dog after the President.

In clarifying the situation, Oyeyemi stated that Chinakwe's prosecution at an Ogun Magistrates' Court was over a conduct likely to cause a breach of peace after a neighbour reported that the suspect named his dog after his father who bears the same name with the President following a quarrel between them.

The statement also added that a crisis almost broke out in the Ketere area of Sango Ota in the state, between Chinakwe and his accuser who was vehemently supported by his Hausa folks from the local community, something that could have caused an ethnic fracas.

The statement also pointed out that the police tried to broker peace between the two warring men but all efforts were thwarted by Iroko as he was not ready for any truce deal.
