A pregnant woman was one of those that lost their lives when a fuel-laden tanker ran into several vehicles.
An heavily pregnant woman was one of seven persons to die in a horrible accident involving a tanker and other vehicles, in Onitsha, Anambra State, just as about 15 others sustained various degrees of injuries.
An eyewitness who reported the accident, said that the tanker which was laden with fuel, was descending the steep Awka Road when it had a brake failure and rammed into other vehicles at Anambra Broadcasting Service, ABS/Awka Road traffic light junction.
In a bid to avoid more destruction, the driver of the tanker was said to have crushed Mitsubishi bus loaded with passengers, as well as hitting four tricycles.
The eyewitness said:
"The pregnant woman was standing at the bus stop, perhaps waiting for a bus, when she was crushed by the tanker. Others were mostly passengers in the four tricycles that were hit in the multiple accidents."
