Onitsha-based transport company G.U.O is counting its losses as a fire accident on Monday, January 5 resulted in the loss of properties worth millions of Naira.

The company revealed that seven luxury buses and six mini buses belonging to them were completely razed during the unfortunate inferno at its headquarters at the Ogbunike axis of Onitsha-Enugu Expressway.

Speaking to Newsmen at the company's premises, the company's spokesman, Augustine Okigbo revealed that the fire which started around 5pm was caused by an explosion which occurred while a tanker was discharging diesel into a ground tank.

Augustine Okigbo described the incident as unfortunate according to a report by The Nations.

Okigbo said workers and sympathisers attempted to put out the fire but their efforts were futile because they lacked the right equipment to put out fire. Firefighters of the Anambra State Fire Service from Okpoko and Onitsha Main Market arrived to out out the fire after properties have been lost in the inferno.

Okigbo urged the government to equip G.U.O. and other companies with fire-fighting equipment.
