Policeman Who Killed His Baby Now In Custody
The police corporal who murdered his son, Lucky Ikharia, has finally been arrested.
In the news which drew a lot of condemnation from the public, it was reported that Lucky who had a fight with his wife over his missing N2,000, had trailed his estranged wife on her way to her parents’ home, and ran over her several times with his commercial bus and crushed her legs before going back to his house to murder his son the evening of Thursday, October 30.
He also attempted to kill himself by turning the knife he used to kill the boy, on himself. After that, he fled the scene to an unknown place but the long arm of the law finally caught up with him.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, while confirming the arrest of Lucky, said the case had also been transferred to the state Department of Criminal Investigations, Yaba, Lagos.
He said:
Yes, the incident happened as you have said. But the circumstances surrounding the incident are still hazy. This is what the police are investigating. The suspect has been arrested and he is presently in custody at the state DCI.
When we are through with the investigations, we will let the press be informed of the full details.
Meanwhile, Punch Metro learnt that after stabbing himself, Lucky was first hospitalised at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi Araba, Mushin, on the day of the incident. One of the nurses said the policeman had claimed it was some armed robbers who attacked him, killed his son and wounded his wife.
Meanwhile, reports have it that the conditions of Dupe’s legs are worsening at the private hospital where she was receiving treatment. Her elder brother, Mr. Segun Akiode, confirmed that the family had exhausted all their resources on the treatment, adding that the only police visitors they received were from the Akinpelu Division on Sunday.
Just this morning (Thursday), her condition worsened. As the nurses wanted to administer drugs to her, she began to bleed. She became very weak, and fainted. But as of his afternoon, she has begun to regain her consciousness.
Ever since the incident happened, it was only the policemen from the Akinpelu division who had come to show some sympathy. We have yet to see anyone from Makinde Division where Lucky works.
