'My brothers want me to start paying rent in our father's house'

Yetunde has not been lucky with men and love as the two men who got her pregnant have all abandoned her while her brothers want to send her out of the house.

A depressed lady

"Dear Pulse,

My name is , a 26-year-old single mother of two. despite having two children with two different men.

It was not by choice that I decided to have children out of wedlock, just that I have never been lucky when it come to men and love.

I had my first child by mistake when I was just 18 and fresh out of secondary school, thus truncating my dreams of furthering my education because my father who had three wives, vowed never to waste his money on a useless child like me.

My mother, a petty trader, could not send me to school as well while the man who got me pregnant promptly abandoned me despite all the promises he made to me. I was left with the task of taking care of my child all alone and I went through hell to give him my best.

I hawked bread, pure water, oranges and just about anything so as to be able to take care of my child since everyone had abandoned me.

It was in my quest for help that I met who promised to marry me and adopt my child. He really helped me at the initial stage and took me to his parents to introduce as his wife to be. I was happy that I had found a man who loved me and wanted me for who I was.

But everything changed when I got pregnant with my second child. I was living with Deji at this time but when I became pregnant, he changed completely and got angry at me at the slightest offense.

My presence seemed to irritate him and he never wanted to see my child whom he had agreed to adopt as his own. He turned me into a punching bag and one night, Deji beat me to a pulp and I almost lost my life and my pregnancy.

I had no choice but to go back to my late father's house where I gave birth to my daughter. But I can tell you that I have never had peace as my step-brothers have been giving me hell. They see the fact that my mother never had a male child for my father to mean that we are not part of the family.

In recent times, they have been threatening me and telling me to vacate the room I am staying in as they want to rent it out to a tenant.

The alternative they have given me is to pay rent in my own father's house. Two nights ago, three of my step-brothers beat me up and stripped me naked in public just because I questioned them on why they are so wicked to me.

They have vowed to kill me and my children if I do not vacate my father's compound even when they know that I have nowhere to go.

Someone should help me.
