5 cultist arraigned in court for killing 23-yr-old

Five cultists were arraigned before a Magistrate Court in Lagos for the murder of a 24-year-old, who is said to be a member of a rival cult.

Five cultists reportedly belonging to Aiye Confraternity, who were arrested by men of the Lagos State Police for the killing of a 23-year-old man, have been arraigned before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrate’s Court.

23-year-old Emmanuel Eguku and Oduokyo Deji, 24-year-old Adefemi Qudus, 29-year-old Hoteyin Oladeji and 32-year-old Emeka Ekenjoku were on Monday, February 9 arraigned before Chief Magistrate, Mr. Tunbosun Abolarinwa on three counts of belonging to an unlawful society and murder.

According to , three of the arraigned suspects were said to have planned to kill another cultist suspected to be a member of Eiye Confraternity.

It was learnt that the three suspects immediately after holding a meeting where thy had planned to murder a cultist of a rival gang met the victim passing along the Oriokuta Road, Imota, in the Ikorodu area of Lagos where they shot him to death.

After a series of investigation by the police, three of the suspects alongside two other suspected cultists were arrested.

According to the Investigating Police Officer, Corporal Felix Usogu of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, the police recovered exhibits and fingerprint evidence from the suspects which were tendered to the court.

Emmanuel Eguku , Adefemi Qudus and Oduokyo Deji the court learnt had all confessed to have carried out the murder, while Hoteyin Oladeji and Emeka Ekenjoku were members opf the confraternity.

The first three were arraigned on for murder and cultism where the last two were arraigned just for cultism.

“That you, Emmanuel Eguku , Adefemi Qudus, Odukoyo Deji, and others at large on December 7, 2014, at about 1.30pm, at Oriokuta Road, Imota Ikorodu, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did unlawfully kill one Damilayo Ayodele, aged 23 years, by firing him in his neck with a locally-made pistol,” the charges against the murder-charged trio read.

The Chief Magistrate, ordered that the first three suspects be remanding in orision while the other two suspects were granted bail.

The matter was adjourned till Thursday, March 19.
